Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environment Protection and Waste Management Agency, AKSEPWMA, Obong Prince Ikim, on Wednesday expressed happiness over the success so far recorded by his team of experts working at the flooded Atiku Abubakar Way in Uyo.

The AKSEPWMA boss on Wednesday was accompanied by Board members, Head of Waste, some Supervisors alongside a jubilant crowd made up of business owners in the area, youths and others.

While inspecting the massive underground de-silting of drains in Atiku, Ikim said, some points on the road were water was hitherto stagnant, has started flowing.

“My satisfaction is that stagnant water is moving gradually at some points, but it is not yet Uhuru,” Ikim noted.

He further explained that, by the time the excavators who are currently opening the manhole covers and top soil at every 10 metres on the road, get to the underground drainage, incessant flooding on the area will be a thing of the past.

He emphasized that since all rings on the road are underground, they must be thoroughly de-silted and cleared to flow into the IBB underground drainage.

The AKSEPWMA Chairman later had a brainstorming session with his Supervisors, where he stressed on executing their duties in line with the ARISE Agenda of the Umo Eno led administration.

While extolling them for according seriousness to their jobs, Ikim, charged them to always adhere strictly to global best practices in all their duties.

Meanwhile, Hon. Itoro Eddie, a former Supervisor in Uyo from Ward 10, Mr. Robert Bob, Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Motor Dealers Association, who has a Car stand on Atiku Abubakar Way, Youths of the area, motorists among others, were full of praises to the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for coming to their aid after over two decades of anguish caused by the Atiku Road flood disaster.
