The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism on Wednesday 2nd August, 2023 led a delegation to assess the Akwa Ibom Smart International Airport Terminal.

During the tour, Sir Udoh said the top notch facility which is a regional hub will boost tourism potential in the state.

According to the commissioner, the project will attract travelers from within and outside the country and bring about economic boom in the state.

He described the giant strides recorded in the aviation sector as impressive and worthy of commendation emphasizing that, the terminal is awaiting certification.

The project manager, Mr. Ziya Sungur, assisted by Architect Daniel Etteh, project Architect for VKS Nigeria Construction Ltd took the commissioner and his team round the facility.

He explained that the  terminal can contain A380-800 being the largest passenger aircraft ever with rooms for 850 passengers which flies some of the largest routes around the planet.

According to him, apart from several remote stands which will serve all aircrafts within the CRS series, the smart terminal building at Victor Attach International Airport has 4 code C apron stands with avio bridges and 1 code F for the biggest of the Boeings.

He maintained that based on air traffic Movement ( ATMS ) projections, it should process over 1 million passengers by 2029.

Arc Etteh said interm of efficiency which is another hallmark, a passenger should be processed from Kerbside to his or her flight in a maximum of 5 minutes.

He listed some of the key features of the international smart terminal to include, 4 escalators and 13 elevators within the building for enhanced circulation purposes while deliberate provisions has been made for medical centers, quarantine areas, port health among others.

Accompanying the Commissioner on the tours were the Special Adviser to the Governor on tourism, Imeh Udoh, Director of Administration ( covering duties as Permanent Secretary ) ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Anthony Isonguyo, Director of Tourism, Mrs Enoch, Director of Culture, Mr John Offiong and other members of the tourism Committee.
