Football is the most popular sport in the world. It is a game that transcends age, language, location, race and even gender.

Football as a physical sport, requires and also aids in the physical, psychological and mental fitness of the players.

Elite football players are known to earn humongous amounts of money and if that money is not well managed, it becomes a problem that is why education is very important even in the sport.

One man, in a deliberate attempt to ensure that footballers are well trained and taken care of launched a foundation to train and manage football talents in Nigeria and beyond.

Rotr. Engr. Godwin Ubaha is the co-founder of G&A Foundation, which promotes the trinity of Football, Education and Wellness.

During the Thanksgiving Match hosted by Engr. Ubaha and Friends of Owo-Itam on Friday 22nd December, 2023 at QIC Group School Nung Ukot Itam, he invited Jubilee Bombers to play against Itam Flyover Allstars in a game that featured superstars like Nigeria International Emem Eduok, Marshall Johnson, Moses Udobong, Uko Sam as well as the President, Itam Flyover Allstars, Mr Aniekan Michael.

Jubilee Bombers won the game 2-1.

During the reception at Royal Tira Hotel, resource persons spoke on different topics.

Dr Alexis Emana during his presentation decried the practice of seeking help from traditional bone doctors when a player is injured. He encouraged football to go for scan to accertain the extent of injury before seeking proper treatment.

A representative of American International Insurance Company, Mrs. Dorothy Udofia spoke on the need for life insurance.

She said if footballers insure their lives, their families will not suffer in the event of the unknown.

She also spoke on financial discipline, saying, “invest today and enjoy tomorrow”.

G&A Foundation is committed to educating footballers and making sure that after football, they will have something to fall back on.

The Foundation has sponsored the treatment of about 10 footballers so far and is committed to doing more.

Engr. Godwin Ubaha is also the CEO of Crayfish Master, a renowned seafood conglomerate that deals on high quality Oron Crayfish.

He is from Mbak Ikot Oku Itam in Itu Local Government Area.

He is married to Dr. Aniebiet Ubaha with children.
