Capacity Building: AKSEPWMA Trains Resource Persons, Supervisors on Modern Waste Management Techniques

To enhance the capacity of its waste management workers and update their knowledge with global best practices, the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) has embarked on a 2-day seminar and training for its resource persons and supervisors.
The event held at Edinan and Suites Ltd , 19th Dec, 2024, was Chaired by the Agency’s Chairman, Obong Prince Ikim.

The training covered a wide range of topics, focusing on effective and modern techniques for managing various aspects of the Agency’s operations. Key areas addressed included desilting, waste evacuation, vegetation control, and litter control.
In his remarks, Ikim stated firmly, that the training was held solely to update the resource persons on modern best practices in waste management and for them to know what their duties are and how well to manage their areas of work as lukewarm attitudes to work will not be tolerated and defaulters will be sacked immediately.

Ikim also spoke on welfare of workers, stating that, sweepers will henceforth be paid 30 thousand naira as against the 20 thousand previously paid.
He implored the resource persons to take their workers welfare seriously and make sure all workers are fully kitted in PPEs relevant to their fields.

Present at the event were the board members, Hon. Victor Henry, Hon. Charles Ememobong, Engr. Anietie Elijah, Engr Ekaete Inyang, the management staff, Head of Admin, Mr Ikpim Eteyen, Head of Legal, Bar Andy Umo, Head of Environmental Health Mr John represented.
