Season of Promoting Akwa Ibom Culture, Uniting, Others

On December 1st, 2024, Udo-Udoma Avenue in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, came alive as the busiest road in Uyo, the state capital due to the Christmas Unplugged Season 2 opening ceremony. The event, which started on December 1st, 2024 will run till January 1st, 2025 with the aim of promoting Akwa Ibom state rich cultural heritage, unite families and friends, and showcase the state’s diverse cuisines.

Thousands trooped into Unity Park, Udo-Udoma Avenue, venue of Christmas Unplugged, to witness the opening ceremony. Abak Local Government Area took the lead in showcasing their cultural heritage and delicacies. The event featured cultural displays, music performances, and a variety of food stalls.
It was a destination for families, lovers, traditional rulers, church leaders, and the political class, who were seen sitting in clusters, exchanging pleasantries, drinking and eating local food. A closer look at the faces of people at different stands showed excitement and satisfaction.

At about 8:00 pm., the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, arrived at the venue amidst cheers and applause. The atmosphere was electrified with a standing ovation.
Governor Umo Eno, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, welcomed residents of the state to biggest carnival in the state.
Permanent Secretary Ministry Of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Grace Akpan joined her people for the carnival float.
Mr. Uwah stated that, the aim of the event is for families, friends, the poor, the rich, and associates to unwind, share love, and enjoy the rich cultural heritage that Akwa Ibom State is blessed with. He also invited residents of the state to the 2024 Carol Night and reminded participating local government areas to adhere to the governor’s directive against diabolic cultural displays at the carnival.
“It is therefore my pleasure to invite all Akwa Ibom people at home and in the Diaspora, as well as friends, to the Christmas Carol Night scheduled for December 13th, 2024.”

Sir Charles Udoh, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, has once again displayed his branding capacity to the world. The ambiance and remodeling of the Christmas Park are top-notch. Unity Park, formerly known as Christmas Village, Udo-Udoma Avenue, Akwa Ibom State is a destination for tourism this season.
