Senator Aniekan Bassey of the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District flagged off phase two of his capacity development training in agriculture for constituents of the district to bolster food security and agricultural productivity.
The event, held on Thursday at the Constituency Office, will also afford participants the opportunity to get oil palm seedlings and fertilizers.

Representing the Senator at the flag-off was the Director General of Team Aniekan Bassey, Obong Godwin Awah, who reaffirmed Senator Bassey’s unwavering commitment to improving agricultural infrastructure and human capital development in the district.
Speaking, Obong Awah explained that the Senator’s training programme, like the previous ones, complements the A.R.I.S.E Agenda of Governor Umo Eno, which prioritizes food sufficiency, rural development, and economic empowerment.

The Director General emphasized that the Senator’s intervention is designed to equip constituents with both knowledge and resources to engage in productive farming, thereby enhancing their livelihoods and contributing to the state’s food security.
Obong Awah added that “The phase-two of the Senator’s training and empowerment programme follows a successful phase-one that has already begun yielding visible impact in the local farming communities.”

Also speaking, the Spokesperson of Team Aniekan Bassey, Dr Eventus Edem, hinted that the training sessions would be handled by experts, saying, “These experts engaged participants in intensive training sessions tailored to modern farming techniques, sustainable agricultural practices, and value chain development.”
In his remarks, the Director of Protocol to the Senator, Hon. Desmond Etim, who coordinated the event, said that all participants in the training would be empowered with start-up capital, fertilizers, and improved palm seedlings to enable them to begin or scale up their farming ventures.

The grassroots-driven event, which was supervised by the Federal Ministry of Special Duties, and witnessed by the Managing Director of Chered Pavilion Limited, Engr. Godwin, featured resource persons drawn from the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi, and the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
