The peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter congresses across Akwa Ibom State has drawn commendation from party leaders, who described the exercise as a testament to Governor Umo Eno’s inclusive leadership style and commitment to political stability.

The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, who chairs the APC Congresses Implementation Committee, said the orderly process reflected deliberate efforts to deepen unity within the party.

Speaking with journalists at St. Patrick Primary School, Uyo, shortly after the exercise, Uwah said ward congresses were conducted statewide without incident.

“Observers and members alike can attest to the calm and orderly atmosphere that characterized the congresses,” he said. “This outcome underscores the governor’s commitment to integrating both long-standing members and new entrants into the party structure.”

Uwah noted that the seamless process demonstrated a growing culture of consensus within the party and positioned Akwa Ibom as a model for orderly political engagement ahead of the state congress.

He attributed the peaceful atmosphere to what he described as the conciliatory disposition of Governor Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, adding that their example encouraged party faithful to act responsibly.

Uwah also reassured members who were not accommodated in the current arrangements that their interests would be addressed, emphasizing that party leadership remained committed to fairness and inclusion.

The member representing Uyo State Constituency, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo said the governor had demonstrated that both legacy members and new entrants would have their interests protected.

“This approach has strengthened confidence within the party and fostered unity at the grassroots,” Asuquo said.

Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Uwemedimo Udo, described the congress as peaceful and transparent, noting that the orderly conduct reflected grassroots confidence in the party’s leadership and the coordinating role played by Uwah.

Former Uyo council chairman Essien Nkanga commended the governor’s implementation of the ARISE Agenda, saying the administration’s governance style had strengthened public trust and political cohesion.

Also speaking, former Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Monday, Eyo thanked the governor for what he described as compassionate and unifying leadership, urging newly elected ward executives to remain accessible and responsive to members.

Returning officer for the APC Congress, Kufre Ikono said the congress adhered strictly to approved party procedures, adding that the adoption of consensus and direct processes contributed to stability within the local structure. He commended local leaders for maintaining coordination and peace throughout the exercise.

The Uyo chapter congress concluded with the election of Young Godwin as chapter chairman alongside other executives.

Political observers say the peaceful conduct of internal party elections strengthens democratic culture, enhances institutional legitimacy, and reinforces Akwa Ibom’s growing reputation as a stable political environment anchored on inclusion, consensus-building and public welfare.
