May 30, 2026, proved a defining moment at the Akwa Ibom State Government House Banquet Hall, venue of the 3rd Anniversary Media Chat with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom state Council, as Governor Pastor Umo Eno confronted pressing issues in the state with commitment, compassion and a renewed call for unity to make life more meaningful for the common man.

The hall was filled to capacity with journalists drawn from various media organisations across Akwa Ibom State, led by the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Nsibiet John. With the State Commissioner for Information, Elder Aniekan Umanah Ph.D, anchoring the session, Governor Eno’s composed entry and forthright tone immediately set the mood. His candid, fact-driven responses drew repeated applause from media professionals in attendance.

On the power sector, Governor Eno disclosed that a framework for uninterrupted electricity supply was already in motion. He explained that a regulatory committee had been constituted, with the State House of Assembly concluding the screening of resource persons to drive the process. He acknowledged that Ibom Power Company, IPC, owned by the state, had performed below expectations. To correct this, his administration is pursuing modalities that would secure Akwa Ibom State a seat on the power distribution board to give the state greater control over supply and pricing.

Reeling out his administration’s scorecard over the last three years, the Governor pointed to investments in the maritime sector, agriculture, youth empowerment, workers’ welfare and aviation. Key projects include the completed terminal building at Victor Attah International Airport with inaugural flights to Ghana and the construction of about 1,048 housing units targeted at civil servants and vulnerable residents.

Governor Eno further listed the delivery of 31 model primary health centres, 1,500 kilometres of roads and 121 State Universal Basic Education projects across the 31 local government areas.

He expressed displeasure at attempts by some indigenous contractors to frustrate his administration efforts and issued a firm directive to the firm handling Tabernacle Road to deliver by July 2026 or face termination.

He also urged Akwa Ibom people to build capacity and position themselves for opportunities the government had identified, reaffirmed his commitment to lead with love, unity and shared prosperity.

Beyond his in-depth explanations that dispelled doubts, the Governor’s ability to break down projects with clarity, timelines and figures stood out. His consistent message of peace, his hands-on inspection of projects, and his grasp of sectoral details reinforced his image as a leader who came prepared to govern Akwa Ibom State.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, commended Governor Umo Eno for the open engagement with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council.

He also advocate for regular training of Information Officers in the state government employ to sharpen their skills with modern trend.
