Little Light Women & Children Initiative Sensitizes Students on GBV and VAPP Law 2020

Little Light Women & Children Initiative, (LLWC) took its Gender-Based Violence awareness campaign to two secondary Schools in Akwa Ibom state on June 17, 2026, as part of GBV Awareness Month activities.

The sensitization held at Heritage College, Itiam Etoi, Uyo Local Government Area and Asutan Ekpe Comprehensive Secondary School, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, in line with the 2026 theme, “From Awareness to Action.”

Facilitators from LLWCI, led by Dr. Munachiso Odulana and ASC Eddy Abraham from the Nigerian Correctional Services Gender Unit, educated students on forms of Gender Based Violence and explained key provisions of the Akwa Ibom State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, 2020, in partnership with the State Ministry of Justice GBV Department.

Students learned about offences including rape, sexual harassment, stalking, intimidation, physical, verbal, emotional and psychological abuse, plus penalties under the VAPP Law 2020. The students were shown how to report cases through the Ministry of Justice GBV Department and Ministry of Women Affairs.

The law’s application to all persons, regardless of gender or age, was emphasized during the interactive session. A question and answer segment followed, with gifts presented to some students to encourage participation and learning.
Principals of the Schools in their separate vote of thanks commended the initiative for the sensitization , requested follow-up sessions.
