The student body, led by its Chairman, Comrade Elsie Ntete, made the request today when they paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the NUJ at the Press Centre, Uyo.

Ntete said the group is set for the summit, scheduled to hold on October 28, 2026, with Theme: “Beyond the classroom: building minds, shaping futures” with the Tagline: “The pen builds. Crime destroys. Choose your future.”

She explained that the summit is designed to bring together students from secondary schools and higher institutions for an impactful educational and developmental engagement aimed at equipping young people with the knowledge, values and guidance needed to make informed, responsible and positive life choices.

According to her, the programme will address critical issues affecting students and young people, including media literacy, responsible communication, responsible use of technology, cybercrime awareness, cultism prevention, discipline, decency, responsible citizenship, value of education, personal development, leadership, skills and future opportunities.

“The programme will also feature expert presentations, an inter-school competition, skills and career development sessions, distribution of writing and educational materials and a specially prepared student booklet containing practical Do’s and Don’ts, as well as space for students to document lessons,” Ntete stated.

Responding, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State council, Comrade Nsibiet John, applauded the body for their plans and promised to partner them in the programme.
