Akwa Ibom State Government is ready to promote indigenous crafts and Raffia products of entrepreneurs at the Raffia market in Ikot  Ekpene LGA of the State.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh disclosed this Wednesday during his tour of the Raffia market as part of his ongoing tour of tourists sites and facilities in the State.

Sir Charles Udoh emphasized  that, the State Government is particular about the development of entrepreneurs as encapsulated in the Arise Agenda of the Governor Umo Eno-led administration, and assured the Raffia Market traders of government’s intentions to support , promote and exhibit their arts and craft in every government function within and outside the state.

He expressed satisfaction with their level of creativity and encouraged them to do more as government is ready to partner them in all ramifications.

Speaking, the Chairman, Ikot Ekpene Local Government, Hon. Unyime Etim, appreciated the Hon Commissioner for his visit to Ikot Ekpene Local Government, adding that, the talents exhibited by traders in the Raffia market in Arts and craft informed and  sustained the long nick-name  of Ikot Ekpene as  the “Raffia City”.

The immediately past chairman of the Raffia market, Mr. Augustine Ibom expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for recognising them and solicited for a permanent location for the Raffia market in order to exhibit their arts and craft work without hindrance.

Mr. Augustine Ibok on behalf of traders at the Raffia market, presented a momento, a machete perculiar to the Annang tribe to the Honourable Commissioner, which symbolises Courage and Valour (Agwo Uko)

At Four point by Sheraton, the Managing Director, Yakout Afia, conducted the Commissioner and his team round the facility and informed the team that the Hotel can host major events in the state as has 143 rooms, 2 big basic Suites and 18 junior suits, to accommodate large number of guests.

He also showed the Commissioner round the swimming pool which has an excellent view, VIP lounge and the penthouse, a place where one can have a beautiful view of the entire Ikot Ekpene city.

The Commissioner was accompanied on the tour by his Special Duties counterpart, Bassey B. Okon, Director for Administration and Supplies, Anthony Isonguyo, Director for Tourism, Mrs Enoch and Director for Culture Mr. John Offiong and other tourism gurus.
