It was gathered that flooding has taken over the access road that links other communities , making vehicular movement to and from the community difficult.
When our reporter visited the community recently for an on the spot assessment , residents lamented that the only road that links other communities had been in deplorable condition for years and is impassable during rainy days .
Speaking on the development, a passerby , Madam Arit Etim , who expressed worry over the danger of plying the road during rainy days , said she returned from Ikot Akpenden market and realized that flood had taken over the road , making it impossible for her to go home .
” My daughter , I have been here for a while , flood has taken over the road that leads to my house , as it is , I can’t put my legs inside that water because it is very deep, this is what we pass through whenever it rains , Ikot Isighe is really suffering ” .
Madam Etim appealed to the state government to assist the community in constructing the road with drainage in order to prevent the community from being cut off as a result of the flood.
Also speaking , a motor cyclist , Mr Ubong Ibok while narrating their encounter on raining days , said , the flood has caused them to visit mechanic workshops almost every rainy day.
Ibok hinted that, motor Cycle and car owners in the community and commuters spend unquantifiable hours whenever the road is submerged by the flood, called on the state government to come to their aide .
“ we are pleading with our Governor , Pastor Umo Eno to help us with an accessible road , as he is flagging off roads in the state , we plead him to include Ikot Isighe community in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area , because this is the only road that links both Ikot Isighe and Ikot Okudong communities .
“ if we have good road with drainage , this issue of flooding taking over our community would stop, and residents would finally heave a sigh of relief without any fear of their houses being submerged ”.
