AK-NAWOJ Harps On A Violence Free Society

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Akwa Ibom State council has called on secondary school students to say no to bullying and other forms of violence, as Gender Based violence has physical, emotional and social isolation consequences on the affected persons.
Chairman of the association, Comrade Nsikak Okon made this known yesterday at Lott Carey Baptist Secondary School, Afaha Obio Eno, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, during an advocacy visit against Gender Based Violence (GBV) to the school as part of activities to mark the 2024 16 Days of Activism.
Comrade Nsikak Okon who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Udeme Hosea, named types of Gender Based Violence (GBV) to include, Intimate Partner Violence, Sexual Violence, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM),Trafficking and Acid Violence and their dangers, stressed that, the fight against Gender Based Violence is for the soul of the society, called on the students to be involve by reporting issues of the menace to the school authority .
Comrade Hosea, while saying that Gender Based Violence is an unacceptable trend, hinted that, the state government is against Gender Based Violence and has machinery to deal with perpetuators.
She also called for unity among the students, warned against involving in vices that will affect their academic performance, as they are the leaders of tomorrow.
“let us unite and end Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Akwa Ibom State, as members of NAWOJ, we will continue to preach against the menace of violence against women and girls through advocacy “.
Other speakers including, Comrade Mary Ekere and Comrade Ukeme Ubong highlighted penalties and laws that supports Gender Based Violence (GBV) and harped on the need for students to be focus in their intellectual journey and say no to violence.
In her response, the Senior prefect for Girls, Miss Gods-time Goodluck appreciated Ak-NAWOJ for the sensitization which has enlightened them, promised to pass the message to others.
