… Showcases Two Years of Progress

Rt. Hon. Ime Okon, Member Representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, has clarified a misconception about constituency projects funding in the 2025 budget. Contrary to reports circulating, saying that, lawmakers did not receive N1 billion cash each for projects, instead, each federal constituency was allocated projects worth N1 billion, marking a significant increase from the N200 million allocated in previous years.

Okon made the clarification during a media chat held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at his constituency office in Itu, as part of his mid-term activities in the House of Representatives.
He emphasized that the execution and administration of the projects rested with the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), not with individual lawmakers.

Okon stated that his two years in office have recorded significant strides in delivering constituency projects and representing his people effectively, stressing that, he has attracted projects worth over N1.7 billion to his federal constituency, including the construction of classroom blocks, civic centers, solar-powered streetlights and boreholes in various communities across the constituency, some of which have been commissioned.
He also highlighted his significant legislative contributions, including co-sponsoring bills to establish the Metallurgical and Material Engineers and Scientist Registration Board of Nigeria and the Biomedical Engineers and Scientist Registration Board of Nigeria. Additionally, he sponsored motions to address the deplorable state of the Calabar-Itu-Ikot Ekpene Road, investigate career stagnation caused by discrimination between Higher National Diploma (HND) and Bachelor Degree holders in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, raised a motion on the urgent need to rehabilitate and decongest Nigeria Correctional Centres.
Okon further added that he has demonstrated effective representation by setting up empowerment initiatives, such as paying bursaries to Nigerian Law School students and other students from Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, facilitated training on auto-gas conversion, facilitated the employment of constituents in federal and state establishments and organized free medical outreach, among others.
While applauding Governor Pastor Umo Eno for unifying the state, Okon sought continued support from his constituents for the Governor, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other federal legislators.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Amos Etuk, in his vote of thanks, congratulated the lawmaker on his achievements, commending him for his effective representation and for engaging with the media to share his accomplishments.
