…Says Poverty, Inequality Drove Him Into 2027 Governorship Race

By Udeme Hosea

Former Nigerian senator who represented Akwa Ibom North East and the governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Senator John James Akpan Udoedehe, has said his 2027 governorship bid is to tackle poverty, inequality and unemployment in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking earlier today with newsmen at his country home, the former Minister of State, Senator Udoedehe who declared his Governorship intention to contest on the ADC platform, explained that, poverty , joblessness and unequal opportunities across the state informed his decision to join the race.

“The level of poverty, inequality and unemployment informed my decision. My governorship ambition is to take away poverty, inequality and unemployment in the state,” he said.

Udoedehe also denied claims that he traded electoral mandates for personal gain and challenged anyone with proof to come forward, insisting no such transaction exists.

“I have never sold election to anybody in Akwa Ibom State. There is no evidence by anyone that I sold election. There is no traceable receipt, no evidence of transaction,” he said. “If you pick money from Government House, there are cameras everywhere that would have captured someone carrying the money into my car. There is none.”

The former Minister, while calling on Akwa Ibom people to support his aspiration, however announced that, his ambition is not for personal gain or to build his first good house, but to bridge ethnic divides and implement budgets with a voice, stressing that, the ADC offers Akwa Ibom people a credible political alternative anchored on integrity, accountability and development.

“I have all I need in life, including cars, houses and other things. I am contesting the governorship election for my people and the growth of Akwa Ibom State.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to implement budgets with a voice and promised to bring his wealth of experience as the pioneer chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation in Nigeria to enable impactful policies.

He advised young politicians to refrain from inheriting other people’s enemies or serving as agents of destruction, stressing that karma is real.
